Villages
The island of Chios has 66 very different and picturesque villages. The northern section of the island is home to the beautiful villages of Amades, Kardamila, Kambia, Lagada, and Viki, whilst the north-western section is home to the villages of Agiasmata, Agio Gala, Nenitouria, Pirama, and Volissos.
These villages are well known for their graphic, enchanting valleys and the therapeutic spring nearby. In the central section of Chios visitors will find the beautiful village of Anavatos which was built on the top of a monolithic rock formation made of granite.
To the south there are the famous medieval villages of Mesta, Olympi and Pirgi famous for its unique black and white geometric decor displayed on the outer walls of houses. These villages were built like castles to foil the many raid attempts by pirates in the middle ages have preserved their architecture till today. Visiting these villages is literally going back in time to the medieval times.
