Heraklion, Crete
Heraklion travel guide
Neighbouring with Rethymnon to the west and Lassithi to the east, the prefecture of Heraklion with its capital Heraklion is the business centre of Crete.
The prefecture’s population as a whole totals some 303,250 inhabitants. This large town is the capital of Crete and is populated by approximately 135.000 inhabitants. It is quite a busy and not particularly attractive town but as compensation offers many interesting sites to visit.
The city is built on the northern shores of Crete and has a very active nightlife scene with many bars, clubs and cafes as well as numerous restaurants and even more taverns because apart from being the main port of entry to Crete, it also gathers lots of young people due to the many University and technical school departments.
